Bremen
- Gdansk NGO-Forum
on the occasion of 30 years town twinning

On April 12th, 1976, Andrzej Kaznowski and Hans Koschnik signed
the "Skeleton Agreement on Cooperation" of the two Hanseatic
towns Gdansk and Bremen in the Gdansk townhall. By that the
first town twinning was made between a West German and a Polish
town. This important step towards each other at that time signalled
the intention of both sides to mutual rapprochement and understanding.
The agreement formed the basis for the continuous meetings of
many people of both towns. Since then the official contacts
of the respective representatives no longer make up the centre
of the international relationship but the friendly togetherness
in arts, sports and in the socio-cultural sphere as well as
cooperation in the economic and scientific field. This year
we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Bremen-Gdansk town
twinning. On the occasion of that jubilee we are creating a
platform for the non-governmental organisations in both towns
which enables them to develop common European projects. Have
