The first activities of INFOBALT go back to the late 80ies,
when some German people of different background wanted to support
the independence movements in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
1991 INFOBALT was founded as non-profit-NGO. Bremen has Riga
as twintown already since 1985, but we always felt the lack
for support of direct contacts between Citizens. We got a lot
of cooperation-requests from Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians,
and if not getting support in Bremen, so we try to find partners
for co-operation and information-exchange also in other parts
of Germany. 1992-2003 we published our own journal on the three
Baltic States, and participated in publishing of several books
on this topic. Since 2000 we produce our own programme in Bremen
radio. We always welcome common projects with German or with
Baltic partners, even if not getting financial support from
Bremen state. Since 2001 we are active in frame of the network
of NGOs Baltic Sea Co-operation, including partners in all member
states of the Council of Baltic Sea States (CBSS).
