  meetings & results

We, the School at the Water in Bremen, met with the Primary School 69 from Gdansk. Both of us want to plan a project that shall last a week and has the theme of "Water", because both of our schools are really near the water. Both of us are primary schools. The project shall be in Bremen at our school next year in May or June. Some pupils from the Polish school and a teacher will visit us during this time. The pupils shall stay with some German pupils. The Polish pupils will make a video or something like that and will show that in Gdansk when they will return. In September the project with the same theme will start at the Gdansk school. About 5 or 6 German pupils go then to Gdansk. They make a video from the Polish project-week and then will show it here in Bremen at our school. The theme will be water and perhaps we make a film about the difference between North- and Eastsea. We are lucky, that we have some pupils who are from Poland, so there will not be any difficulties with the language. We hope that we are able to collect some money for this idea. But we are very optimistic.

  results & outlook

Meeting in Gdansk 30 June – 2 July 2006

Report about the tandem group „ Primary schools“
- Skola Podstawowa nr. 69 represented by Danuta Okuniewska and
- Schule Am Wasser represented by Angelika Klemm-Bünte and Reinhild Braun

On the first meeting in Bremen the group had agreed about carrying out a common project (during one week) about “Living and working near the water”.
On our first meeting in Gdansk on Saturday we presented Danuta material (work sheets, pictures, photographs) about the project we had in 2003 about the above mentioned subject.

Danuta told us about the project which is continuously supported at her school: Collecting cans, paper, batteries in the surrounding of the school and on the beach. In the district of Danutas school the waste separation is still not organized. Therefore Danuta and her collegues endeaver to sensitize the children to take care of their environment. By the help of a computer program the children should be enabled to learn how to avoid and to separate waste. One motivation for the children to collect waste is that they get some money whenever they take batteries or cans to school. This environment awareness is supposed to expand from the school into the whole district.
In the beginning of this meeting we had some language communication problems, but we could destroy them by support of an interpreter.
Danuta invited us to visit her school the next day. So we met on Sunday and her husband, who could speak English well, took us by his car to the school. They both led us through the school and showed us different classrooms and subject rooms.
In a closing discussion we decided to postpone a common project for an indefinite period, because Danuta’s ecological project will be continued for a longer period. We agreed on staying in contact with an exchange of experiences once a year.
We are very glad about the kind and hearty reception in Gdansk.

Angelika und Reinhild
